Hi all,

WINE TASTING – Just off his victory in the Cab Challenge a few weeks ago, Jeff Howell of the Valley of the Sun Distributing is going to taste us on some excellent wines, mostly from California, this Friday, June 18th. We’ll start with the exception, the Elk Cove Pinot Gris from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. Then we’ll try the benchmark Matanzas Creek Sauvignon Blanc, the Carmel Road Pinot Noir from Monterey, the organic and modestly priced Girasole Zinfandel, the Kinton Syrah and then finish with the Revenge Napa Blend (a small production wine that is mostly Cabernet, some Merlot and a little Sirah).

The presentation Friday will start promptly at 6:00 PM. Remember this “ain’t LA” (thank goodness) so don’t be late. The wine class costs $10 per person and all the featured wines are 10% off. For the money you get to try the wines during the wine class (usually six) and complement them with the best food at any wine class in the state. We are limiting attendance to the first 45 people.

MUSIC – Bryne Donaldson and his sax won’t be back until Saturday, July, 17th. The 4th of July is coming so we won’t be doing a wine class on the 2nd nor listening to Bryne on his regularly scheduled day, the 3rd. And he has another gig on the 10th. Please visit his web site at http://www.brynedonaldson.com/index.htm

THANKS – Ron brought some good wines to the wine class last Friday. The OZV Zin and the Predator Zin were both winners even though quite different. Thanks to all of you that showed up. And the recently repaired A/C worked like a champ. Of course our apologies to those that didn’t get in to the wine class. Show up early is still the best advise.

OTHER – We have the latest, Summer 2010, issue of Arizona Vines and Wines. There is lots of great information about the state’s wineries and tours. And it is free!

We have always given a discount of 10% if you buy a case (12 bottles) of wine. Now you get the discount when you buy only 6 bottles.

You may have noticed that we have some wines on sale up at the front of the shop. These are excellent wines that are the older vintage or one that we can’t get more of or such. And you can save a few bucks off our already great prices. Of course the selection is always changing.

We have WiFi available in the shop if you’d like to use it. Just ask for the password.

Have fun,
Liza and Bob

Hi all,

We got the air conditioner fixed! It was really warm on Friday and on Saturday we found that one air conditioner was broke. It will be better this week.

WINE TASTING – Ron Feczko from Republic National wants to show some of his wines this Friday, June 11. We will have our token white wine, a great sauvignon blanc from Napa Cellars. Then we’ll also be closing with their Cabernet Sauvignon. (Did you know that the sauvignon blanc, along with cabernet franc, is the progenitor of the cabernet sauvignon?) In between we’ll try the Benziger Merlot, Vinum Cellars PETS Petite Sirah and a couple of Zins, one called Predator and the other OZV.

The 4th of July is coming and we won’t be doing a wine class on the 2nd nor listening to Bryne on the 3rd. We had a great time and a great crowd last night. Thanks to him and, of course, to all of you that showed up.

THANKS – Mona Riedel was a lot of fun on Friday. Thanks to her and thanks to all of you that endures the warm environs.

OTHER – We have always given a discount of 10% if you buy a case (12 bottles) of wine. Now you get the discount when you buy only 6 bottles.

Hi all,

We will be open today, May 31st, but then we will be closed on Sundays for the summer.

WINE TASTING – You haven’t scared Mona off yet. She has volunteered to do the wine class this Friday, June 4th. She even had a theme but I forgot to write it down, and of course I don’t remember. We are making a concession to summer by having three whites including a Pinot Grigio, a Sauvignon Blanc and an unoaked Chardonnay. And then we’ll have three reds including a blend, a Malbec and a mystery wine.

MUSIC – Bryne Donaldson and his sax will be back this Saturday, June, 5th. If you haven’t enjoyed his upbeat style before, we hope you can make his performance which starts at 7 PM. Remember there are no cover and no minimum drink purchase.

THANKS – Thanks to Sam Pillsbury for coming by to show us his newest releases. The reception showed that he is doing an excellent job. And thanks to all of you that showed up to support Arizona wines.

GOOGLE – We’re a Google “Favorite Place” and now have been reviewed three times (thanks Rick but I suspect Jessica wrote it since there weren’t any grammatical errors). The next time you are on Google Maps please click on the icon for us and leave a review.

OTHER – We have always given a discount of 10% if you buy a case (12 bottles) of wine. Now you get the discount when you buy only 6 bottles.

Hi all,

We are going to close on Sundays for the summer starting June 6th.

WINE TASTING – We’re doing another “Wine Challenge” this Friday, May 21st. And this time it is all Cabs! Jeff from Valley of the Sun Fine Wines, Toby from Action Wines and Ron from Republic National will show their best high end and their best more value oriented Cabernet Sauvignons. We’ve done this a couple of times in the past with other varietals and it has been a lot of fun. I’m sure they have given me a list of the wines they want to present but I can’t lay my hands on it at the moment. You can be assured that they’ll be great as each guy wants to win.

THANKS – Thanks to Kelly for another great presentation and thanks to all of you that attended. And thanks to everyone that came by to watch “Race Across the Sky” and to make it a wonderful evening.

GOOGLE – We’re a Google “Favorite Place” but still have only been reviewed twice. The next time you are on Google Maps please click on the icon for us and leave a review.

COMING SOON – Sam Pillsbury is going to be in the shop on Friday, May 28th to show us his latest vintage. He’ll be doing the presentation at that wine class so make your plans to show up early.

Hi all,

We are going to close on Sundays for the summer starting June 6th.

WINE TASTING – Kelly is back! It has been a whole two weeks since Kelly has done a wine class so she’s going to try it again. Don’t know how that happened but she has a great theme, “Animal Instincts”, for this Friday’s wine class, May 14th. We’re doing animal (related) wines.

The list looks like this: Frog’s Leap Sauvignon Blanc, Decoy Anderson Valley Pinot Noir, Wine Guerilla Dry Creek Zinfandel, Wine Guerilla RR Zinfandel, Bridlewood Arabesque and Nandu Malbec. (A “Nandu” is a large flightless bird for you that didn’t know.)

The presentation Friday will start promptly at 6:00 PM. Remember this “ain’t LA” (thank goodness) so don’t be late. The wine class costs $10 per person and all the featured wines are 10% off. THANKS – Even though we did stick close to home, the wines were still wonderful. Michael David’s Petite Petit was the sell out winner so we will have more in on Tuesday. Thanks to all of you that came by to make it so much fun.

GOOGLE – We’re a Google “Favorite Place” but have only been reviewed twice. I was in error last week when I kept the “once” from the week before. Kate wrote a second very nice review to get us to two. The next time you are on Google Maps click on the icon for us and leave a review, please.

COMING SOON – We’re doing a Movie Night this Wednesday, May 12th. We’ll be showing “Race Across the Sky – The Leadville 100.” Check out the trailer at http://www.raceacrossthesky.com. It is a very exciting and inspirational story.

Sam Pillsbury is going to be in the shop on Friday, May 28th to show us his latest vintage. He’ll be doing the presentation at that wine class so make your plans to show up early.

OTHER – We have the latest, Spring 2010 issue of Arizona Vines and Wines. There is lots of great information about the state’s wineries and tours. And it is free!
