We will be closed on Thanksgiving Day so pick your wines up early (meaning Tuesday or Wednesday). No wine class this Friday, November 24th. We will be open from noon to 9 PM on Friday so you can stop in and have a glass of wine during your busy day. Hope to see you then.
Ed has done a great job on maintaining our web site forever and we are deeply appreciative. But Rick Lord has taken on that thankless task and has given the site a whole new look. One of the new features is a “blog”. For you that are like myself that don’t know about blogs, it is a line of written conversation where you can make comments, ask questions or the like and anyone will have the opportunity to comment or answer. It is pretty neat. And he has set up a WiFi network (or something like that meaning wireless) so we may be the first internet wine bar. Either way you can bring in your laptop computer and connect to the internet right from you table (we aren’t allowing it from the bar).
Thanks to Lia for the presentation of the Beringer and Chateau St Jean Wines. They were good!
Rootdown will be back on December 14th! They had the folks dancing in the aisles last time. They’ll start at 6 PM and finish before 9. Their web site is www.rootdown-az.com which they have updated so you might want to check it out.
Lena got a very positive response to her idea of doing a “High End Riesling” tasting. To include the very best, a Trockenbeerenaulese, the cost will be $70/ person. Each of the five wines are the very best! Let me know if you want to participate during the second week of December. We will pick an exact date later.
Let me know if you are interested in doing a Riedel Tasting too. We are looking at December 6th at 6 PM. The cost will be $99/ person and you get to keep the four glasses. All the wines we try will be relatively high end to really show what the glasses can do.
We’re going to host another Facials and Fine Wines on Thursday, November 30th. Notice the change of date. Heather will be helping you do a facial with Mary Kay products as you enjoy some great wines. The cost for the wine is $10 and the facial is free. Call her at (602) 677-9535 to reserve a spot. It is okay for the guys too!

What wines would you recommend for a traditional Thanksgiving dinner?
Bottom line is whatever you like. I can’t think of anything worse than drinking something I didn’t like. Gewurztraminers and Rieslings are very tradtional and you have the option with each of either a dry or sweet style. Their fruity flavors are very pleasant to the palate and go well with the light flavors of the turkey.
For those folks that absolutely have to have a red wine, Pinot Noirs are nice choices. Whatever wine you choose it should be something that has a complimentary flavor and doesn’t over power the flavors of the food. So I would save that big Cab for the steak on Saturday.
