Stuart Blackwell from St Hallet Winery in Australia is going to be in our shop to do the wine class this Friday, February 2nd. The event is sponsored by Southern Wines and Spirits; that is the company that Scott Greenwold works for. We will be featuring five of Stuart’s wines. To give everyone a fair chance to attend we are asking those that want to come to call with their credit card number or stop by the shop with $10. We will be limiting attendance to the first 45 people. Please don’t reply to this email with your credit card number.

Thanks to Jason for doing a great presentation of some wonderful wines from Italy last Friday. The Centine was clearly the favorite but the selection was generally well received.

We are trying to start a bowling team to compete one time in early April on a Monday. If you are a bowler and would like to have some fun, please let me know. The Steele Winery is sponsoring the event.

There’s a new Vineyard and Winery project underway in Cochise County that’s open for investors…Sam Pillsbury, noted film producer/director, and former co-owner of award-winning Dos Cabezas Wineworks, last year purchased 80 acres of superb vineyard land across the road from his Dos Cabezas holdings. He is raising $1.2 million in investment capital to launch the winery on 40 acres and hold the 40 excess acres for future development or sale. Land values in the immediate area have skyrocketed since Dick Erath from Oregon started his new vineyard next door, but investors will buy in at Sam’s purchase price of $4,375 an acre, substantially lower than the most recent adjacent sale at $7,000 an acre. Page Springs Cellars group has purchased Dos Cabezas vineyards and Eric Glomski of Page Springs will be Sam’s new winemaker. Anyone interested should contact Sam Pillsbury at spillsbury@aol.com for an investment package.

Jason Benedict from Alliance Beverage is going to be the presenter this Friday, January 26th at 6 PM. He has a great selection of affordable wines from Italy. There will be a Pinot Grigio, of course since this is an Italian line up, and then variety of five reds concluding with a sparkling dessert wine at the end.

Thanks to Chris from Rancho Rossa Vineyards for braving the Phoenix traffic to show us his wines. All the comments were more than favorable as he really knows how to grow great grapes and it shows in his wonderful wines. Even though he is out of the Grenache at the winery, we still have a few bottles.

And remember on February 2 we will have Stuart Blackwell from St Hallet Winery in Australia in. So mark your calendars as attendance is limited.

We’re still faced with that “Cadillac” problem (which is much preferable to the “Yugo” problems I’m used to). Thanks to the several of you that have offered some suggestions. Some we have tried before and some were new and are being considered. Again our apologies to those that we had to turn away but there were too many people for Liza and I to give the good service that you deserve. If it was true before that you needed to show up early it is really true now. We are going to cap the number of attendees at 45 so please understand and please plan accordingly.

This Friday, January 19th, Chris Hamilton, the owner and winemaker of Rancho Rossa Vineyards down in Elgin, will be in our shop to show you his wines. These are his first vintages and they are great! Several of you have tried and loved his reds which include a Syrah, a Cabernet Sauvignon and a port-like Grenache. We’ll also be trying a couple of his whites, a Sauvignon Blanc and a Cuvee. His Syrah won the Governor’s Choice Award last year as “The Best Red Wine” in Arizona.

Thanks to Scott for doing the presentation last week. And remember on February 2 we will have Stuart Blackwell from St Hallet Winery in Australia in. So mark your calendars as attendance is limited.

We’re faced with a “Cadillac” problem. In changing the wine class to a 6 PM start meant that a lot of people can make it to the class. That was good but too many people can make it to the class. Our apologies to those that we had to turn away but there were way too many people for Liza and I to give the good service that you deserve. If it was true before that you needed to show up early it is really true now. We are going to cap the number of attendees at 45 so please understand and please plan accordingly.

This Friday, January 12th, Scott Greenwold from Southern Wines is going to take us to Chile and Argentina, figuratively. We’ll taste a Sauvignon Blanc from Chile and then a Chardonnay from Argentina. Then we will try a Merlot, one Cab from Chile and another from Argentina and a Malbec/Cabernet blend from Argentina.

The following week we will have the owner and winemaker from Rancho Rossa Vineyards, Chris Hamilton, in the shop. And then on February 2 we will have Stuart Blackwell from St Hallet Winery in Australia in. So mark your calendars as attendance is limited.

We are going to start the year off with an ALL RED wine class. And I’ll do the presentation. We’ll start with a wonderful California Pinot Noir from the Central Coast, then try a Central Coast Merlot, then an Australian Grenache that is luscious, then a red blend from new Zealand, then a Zinfandel from Bogle and conclude with an award winning Carmenere from Chile. That should about do it.

The presentation will start promptly at 6:00 PM. New year, new time! Remember this “ain’t LA” (thank goodness) so don’t be late. The wine class cost $10 per person and all the featured wines are 10% off. For the money you get to try a half a dozen wines during the wine class and compliment them with the best food in the valley at any wine tasting.

Let me know if you are a chess player and would be interested participating in a little something here at the wine shop. Exactly what we haven’t figured out.

Thanks for being so supportive this past year and we wish you all the best in the coming year.
